Microsoft has rolled out its latest Office 365 update for March, bringing co-authoring to Excel on Windows desktops. The feature will be available to Office Insiders initially, allowing them to work on Excel spreadsheets with other Office 365 users in real-time. Microsoft has also made improvements to Teams, Bookings, OneNote, and Visio. Co-authoring is already available in Excel Online and in the Excel mobile apps for Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile (if you’re an Office Insider). With the latest Office 365 update, the feature can also be enjoyed on Windows desktops — and Microsoft promises it is also “working on” co-authoring for Mac. With co-authoring, you can view and edit Excel spreadsheets alongside another user. You will see where the other user is working and any changes they make automatically “within seconds,” Microsoft says, and the company will be using feedback from Insiders to make the experience even greater over time.
This Office 365 update also brings AutoSave to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Windows desktops for files stored in SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and OneDrive for Business. That means you will no longer have to remember to hit the save button manually, and you won’t lose all your progress when your system crashes. Microsoft Teams is now available in 181 markets in 19 languages, and Office 365 Education users can enjoy it for free. Microsoft Bookings, the platform that helps small businesses schedule and manage appointments with their customers, is also rolling out worldwide for Office 365 Business Premium subscribers.
Microsoft has also made inking and accessibility improvements to OneNote, including the addition of graphing handwritten equations and an Accessibility Checker. Finally, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint now work better together, allowing you to seamlessly generate flowcharts using Visio data and then integrate them into your presentations. You can get your hands on the latest Office 365 updates now if you’re an Office Insider.
